How to do this
- Choose a native species — Ghaf (the UAE's national tree), Sidr, or Date Palm. They survive heat and need little water.
- Get a sapling: your garden, school grounds with permission, or request a free Ghaf through Goumbook's Give a Ghaf programme.
- Plant in cooler months (October–March) for the best survival rate. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball.
- Backfill with soil, water deeply, and add mulch to hold moisture.
- Photograph yourself with your newly planted tree.
Reflection prompts
- What species did you plant, and why there? What surprised you about the process? What did you enjoy most?
